In the past there was a toy horse called ‘hobby horse’ and this had given rise to an expression ‘to ride one’s hobby horse’ and it is widely believed that it is from this expression the word hobby has derived.
Almost every one in the world have their own hobby, even if they don’t practice it after becoming an adult they would have practiced it when they were a child. The thing with hobbies is that the people who practice it experience a feel good thing about it.
Hobbies were generally practiced to pass one’s leisure time in a useful manner but as time passed it evolved into a profitable business. Some of the hobbies that have turned into business are craft, artworks, paintings etc.
No one knows for sure what was the first hobby that was practiced and it has taken various forms over the years and the various hobbies are as follows.

For example if a person collects coins he would only collect only coins and not any other thing. There are people who collect unusual items such as watches, miniature models of cars etc.
People usually play games for recreation purposes. All games will have some set of rules and people who play these games must abide by these rules to have a good competition. Famous games that have been around for many years are card and board games.
People play outdoor games to keep their body fit and to spend quality time with friends. As the various outdoor games have huge fan following they have become very big business around the world. Recreation can be various activities such as trekking, swimimg, water sports.
This is a very famous hobby and is a very old hobby too. People have been doing gardening as a hobby for many centuries now. This is a good hobby as it provides the person with a sense of doing some good deed.
Amateur Radio and Flying Model planes:
People always come up with some kind of new hobby and amateur radio and flying model planes are such type of new hobbies. Amateur Radio as a hobby has been around for some decades now but flying model planes is a fairly new hobby and is an expensive one too.
In case of amateur radio people communicate with each other using low strength radio signal. Model planes are small working models of planes which are controlled from land using remotes and the planes fly at very low heights.
In the past very limited number of people had the knowledge of reading but now in the modern era with the advancement in technology almost every one knows how to read and write. As more and more people started to read it soon turned into a very useful hobby. People read all kind of stuff; they read magazines, novels, comics, plays etc.
The hobby that a person practices depends upon the interests of the person and it keeps varying among people. However it is very much essential that everyone has a hobby to spend their leisure time in a useful and beneficial way.
